I got the amazing opportunity to learn how pick out fresh ingredients and put them all together in a delicious meal. This was great for me because as much as I love to eat and write about food, I’m a terrible cook. Thank to Cook with Jason, I’m more confident in my culinary journey.
Cook with Jason is a one-of-a-kind “foodventure” that combines a local farmers market, tastings, a hands-on cooking lesson, humor, and of course, a passion for cooking up simple and nutritious meals.
“The Idea of “Cook with Jason” is, much like the name itself, very simple. It’s me doing what I love…Cooking and Teaching. I’ve always had an interest in education and helping people learn new things. I wanted to create a culinary experience that went beyond a traditional cooking class. By combining science (where food comes from) and focusing on fresh, local ingredients, I can show how to prepare simple dishes packed with flavor that are healthier and taste great,” says Chef Jason Roehm.
During my experience, we wondered through the Solana Beach to the farmers market, where we sampled honey for our carrot dish and picked out eggplant for our Chicken-Eggplant Parmesan. Next we went to the Temecula Olive Oil tasting room and tasted different olive oils paired with vinegars and picked out our dressing for the meal’s salad. (So sweet, so bitter!) Then the best tasting! Wine! Went to a new winery Carruth Cellers for our wine for the evening (and an awesome behind-the-scenes-tour of how the wine was made. So cool!)
Back at the kitchen, we made our own individual Potato, Bacon & Rosemary Pizza. The rest of the menu included: Watermelon Salad with Arugula & Goat Cheese, Pollo con le Melanzane (Chicken-Eggplant Parmigiana), Roasted Heirloom Carrots with Honey & Fresh Thyme), & Baked Apple Rosettes with Homemade Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla Ice Cream. All the meals were spiced and seasoned from Savory Spice Shop Encinitas.
I was incredibly full and satisfied. And I met the best women like ever. If you love to cook or want to learn how plus meet unique individuals, Cook with Jason is a well-worth it afternoon.
