Engagement 101: Newly engaged? Engaged Started Kit

You’re engaged!!! First off, congratulations to you and your future hubby! Second off, now what?! After the engagement excitement and glow has settled down, there are some things to do to prep for the wedding planning process. Here is my engagement checklist. Happy planning!

  1. Get the engagement ring insured.

Chances are you are going to want to “rock” that ring every day, but perhaps there might be times you take it off when you shower, workout, cook, etc. Keep your ring in a safe place; accidents happen so getting it insured is the way to go.

2. Get organized!

Get a wedding planning book to write down all of your ideas! The books offer month-by-month & steps-by-steps on planning your big day.

3.  Most important part: Budget with the fiance

Weddings do cost money but it all depends on what your budget is! Go over the must haves and could live with outs. Every wedding is completely different and it is your day so you can do what you want. Factor in  what you are paying for and if both of your families are contributing anything. Once you have a clear budget, it will be easier to know what you want to book and how much you are spending.

4. The second most important part: Venue & Date

Think about what kind of wedding you want and that will steer you in the direction of the kind of wedding you will have (at a winery, on the beach, a park or back yard, etc) The possibilities are endless! Once you do some venue tours with their wedding coordinator or with a wedding planner you hired, then comes the date of availability and what season you would like get married in.

5. Who to tell!?

Family and best friends of course! Call or text them before posting on social media! They will appreciate hearing the big (and life-changing) news before the world wide web does (and perfecting the perfect ring selfie). Once you’ve announced the engagement, begin to build your guest list which influences your venue.

6. Engagement photos!

Timeless photos with you and your fiancé with the ring of course! Shop for a photographer (this photographer could possibly be your wedding photographer!) and set up a time & location for your photos.

7. Enjoy your time with your fiance! Yes, everyone will want to see you and have you share the proposal story for the 100th time but make sure to make one-on-one time with your significant other. Take a day trip or plan a date night in…that doesn’t include talking about the wedding. Just relish in the newly engaged glow. 🙂
