When in Mexico: Deckman’s En El Mogor

As a born and bred San Diegan, I am no longer one of the locals who hasn’t experienced the beautiful culture that Mexico has to offer. I had the pleasure of joining Vanguard Culture for a day trip to Valle de Guadalupe. Vanguard Culture provides a space for art lovers and creatives to collaborate ideas by covering local San Diego artists and events along with producing their own culinary experiences like their Avant Garde Costume Gala. Vanguard Culture was invited to the The Happening Contemporary Art Fair in Valle De Guadalupe, which features artists from Russia to San Diego. Before the festival, we dined at the exquisite Deckman’s En El Mogor. Deckman’s En El Magor’s concept is simple and fresh: table to farm. All of the food is locally sourced from the Mogor Ranch. We enjoyed a 7 course lunch (and my first oyster experience!)

Course 1: Fresh Oysters with cucumber and pink peppercorn mignonette

Course 2: Marinated Spider Crab

Course 3: Arugula Salad with Grain Mustard Vinaigrette and Quail Egg

Course 4: Grilled Octopus with Pork Belly, Cauliflower and Chile Guajillo

Course 5: Grilled Quail with Chorizo-Pumpkin Seed Powder, Pipian Vinaigrette and Black Beans

Course 6: Lamb from Mogor with Ratatouille Pure, Garden Tian and Garbanzos.

Course 7: Desserts – Chocolate Confit & Lemmon Tart

The wine was my favorite. The rose Rosa De Mogor was so smooth I knew I wouldn’t get a headache after like most roses. The Chardonnay was bold and balanced and complimented the seafood well. The best of was the Cruz, a blend of Cabernet, Petite Syrah and Merlot.

If you get a chance to go to Valle de Guadalupe make sure to make reservation at Deckman’s!
