Travel Diaries : Wine Tasting in Temecula

As Napa is to Nor Cal’s wine county, Temecula is to San Diego’s wine county. If you’re a wine lover and live in San Diego, visiting Temecula’s winery’s is a must for a day or weekend trip.

My friends and family are winos just like me so we ventured for a true Sunday Funday in Temecula. We were able to hit up 4 out of the 40 plus wineries each unique and satisfying in their own way. Each of the wineries are fairly close to one another so we did a tasting or a glass of wine at each stop.

Stop one: Cougars

Ok, the name gives it kind of a creepy vibe but the wines are divine! The view is just gorgeous with Ali he backyard chairs to soak it all in. Their bistro serves up delicious pizzas & sandwiches. My favorite was their montepulciano wine.

Stop two: Wilson Creek

You come here to party! Wilson Creek is of the busiest and most popular wineries. Known for their famous and award winning Almond Champagne, Wilson Creek is huge with a fun atmosphere for groups of all ages. We had brought our own Meet & cheese board for a snack and sipped on Rose.

Stop three: Ponte

Ponte’s tasting room looks like a barn from the outside and it is just so charming. We did a quick tasting as day light was burning. We tried the “Angry Wife” which went down smooth then had an “angry” bite at the end. Ponte is know for their elegant winery weddings.

Stop four: Avensole

Avensole is the new kid on the block and another popular destination for weddings with a lovely view of he vineyard. We squeezed by closing time of the tasting room and picked out a bottle of their Malbec and enjoyed the sunset.

PS: If you plan on staying the night, go to Old Town Temecula for cheap hotels, yummy eateries & fun bars to keep the party going. 😊
